The Power of Nonviolence - Faith and Love in Action
Saturday, November 4, 2017
10:00 am – Noon
Kent Presbyterian Church
1456 E. Summit Street
In the midst of a badly divided society, where hate speech is becoming common place and demonstrations of various kinds have a propensity to violence, how can we respond in ways that are both constructive and consistent with our own faith tradition?
How should and can we prepare to face such events should they occur in our own communities? How do we shape ourselves to respond nonviolently in the spirit of the one who told us “to love our enemies” and, “if struck on one cheek to turn the other”?
We will look at the roots of nonviolent love in the teachings of Jesus as well as in the lives and work of later practitioners.
The Rev. Dr. Charles L. Kammer, who teaches courses on ethics and nonviolent social change at The College of Wooster, will lead the event. The event will involve much discussion, interaction, and shared ideas.
Registration begins at 9:30 am. Muffins, coffee, and tea will be available.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 330-505-2167 if you plan to spend this stimulating morning with friends and colleagues. We look forward to learning productive ways to think and feel with the guidance of the Holy Spirit in these challenging times.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.
